Brit-Funk is usually associated with the late 70s and early 80s although not just confined to this period. From the mid 70s some pioneering British bands started to emulate their successful American counterparts and although it was not as slick sounding or well produced, the raw energy of the music made it very popular in the clubs. It was often like a less sophisticated brand of jazz funk with lots of brass and percussion over funky bass-lines. However the music progressed and some British produced soul and jazz-funk started sounding almost as good as or even the equal of American material.
