Quiet Storm describes a mood of music and is not really a style as such, although some artists produced their music specifically for this market. Drawing from soul, jazz fusion and smooth jazz styles, Quiet Storm's seductive appeal surfaced in the 80s and like rare groove is not restricted to any particular era.  Some tracks are soul structured songs, but others have no strong or catchy melody lines, relying instead on a subtle groove with solos fading in and out. Always slick, polished and lush sounding, it has remained popular.
